It’s time to get a bit personal. Anxiety is something I feel I’ve had all my life, although it amplified after I had my first child. It got to a point where just getting up and getting dressed felt like a really difficult task. I felt awful all day, then was crippled with chest pains at bedtime. All I wanted was to be a good mum, living a fairly normal life where I wasn’t panicked by something as simple as a ring of the doorbell.
I tried CBD and, after much trial and error, found a product which seemed to lift the veil of anxiety and calm me down. I was resistant at first, as I knew so little about CBD I thought I would get high! But the results were undeniable, and I haven’t looked back. Of course I’m not completely cured of anxiety, but I’ve got the energy I need to be a good parent, work hard and get on with leading a fuller life.
And it’s not just me. Take one look at the internet and you’ll find so many similar stories, from those with mild anxiety or SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) to full blown PTSD – all of whom feel that CBD really helps. Thankfully, something this life changing is now attracting plenty of research. For example in 2011, in a gold standard, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomised clinical trial (ie highly scientific!) patients with social anxiety disorder (SAD) were either given a dose of CBD or a placebo. They then had to participate in a social speaking simulation and their anxiety levels were measured and assessed.
People who had received CBD showed significantly lower anxiety levels than participants who had been given a placebo.
And a study published in Neurotherapeutics in 2015* concludes: ‘Preclinical evidence conclusively demonstrates CBD’s efficacy in reducing anxiety behaviours relevant to multiple disorders, including PTSD, GAD, PD, OCD, and SAD’. You can read the full study in the references below.
Another study in 2019** concluded: ‘Evidence points toward a calming effect for CBD in the central nervous system.’
All these results are highly promising and, right now, more than 800 clinical studies are underway all over the world. This, together with the wealth of anecdotal evidence, will hopefully give healthcare professionals the confidence to recommend CBD oil as an effective treatment for all types of anxiety.
As you may know, it was the quest to find a pure, great-tasting CBD oil to treat my anxiety which led to us dreaming up, and finally creating, the Pro Extract Company. And I’m happy to share my story in the hope that others might benefit too.
